- 1.The speed of a car is given by v = d ÷ t. A car travels 180 km in 3 hours. Work out the average speed of the car in km/h.
- 2.A watering can holds 4500 cm³ of water. Given that 1 litre = 1000 cm³, work out the capacity of the watering can in litres.
- 3.A cyclist rides at a steady speed of 20 mph. Given that 1 mile ≈ 1.6 km, work out the cyclist's speed in km/h.
- 4.A smoothie recipe combines 350 cm³ of mango juice with 650 cm³ of orange juice. Work out the total volume of the smoothie in litres.
- 5.A pump fills a paddling pool at a rate of 130 litres per hour. Work out the rate in litres per minute, to 2 decimal places.
- 6.Work out how many seconds there are in 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
- 7.Rice costs £3.20 per kg. Work out the cost of the rice in pence per 100 g.
- 8.The density of a type of solid plastic is 0.9 g/cm³. Work out the mass of 0.5 m³ of the plastic, in kilograms.
- 9.Given that 1 mile ≈ 1.6 km, work out a speed of 55 mph in km/h.
- 10.A glass holds 250 ml of squash. Work out how many of these glasses are needed to fill a 1 litre bottle.
- 11.A worker is paid £13.20 per hour. Work out this rate of pay in pence per minute.
- 12.A film runs for 2.25 hours. Work out the length of the film in minutes.
- 13.A lorry is carrying a load of mass m tonnes. Given that 1 tonne = 1000 kg, write down an expression for the mass of the load in kilograms.
- 14.A section of a kitchen wall has an area of 45,000 cm². Work out the area of this section in m².
- 15.The density of a liquid is 0.92 g/cm³. Work out the density of the liquid in kg/m³.
