- 1.Given that 1 mile ≈ 1.6 km, work out a speed of 55 mph in km/h.
- 2.1 litre = 100 centilitres. Work out how many centilitres there are in 6 litres.
- 3.A bottle contains 1.5 litres of juice. Given that 1 litre = 1000 ml, work out the capacity of the bottle in millilitres.
- 4.Work out how many seconds there are in 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
- 5.A force of 250 N acts on an area of 0.5 m². Using pressure = force ÷ area, work out the pressure, in pascals.
- 6.A force of 20 N acts on an area of 4 m². Using pressure = force ÷ area, work out the pressure, in pascals.
- 7.A runner's speed is 8 m/s. Given that there are 3600 seconds in an hour and 1000 metres in a kilometre, work out the runner's speed in km/h.
- 8.A lorry is carrying a load of mass m tonnes. Given that 1 tonne = 1000 kg, write down an expression for the mass of the load in kilograms.
- 9.A film runs for 2.25 hours. Work out the length of the film in minutes.
- 10.A worker is paid £13.20 per hour. Work out this rate of pay in pence per minute.
- 11.Write 3 hours 45 minutes as a decimal number of hours.
- 12.A smoothie recipe combines 350 cm³ of mango juice with 650 cm³ of orange juice. Work out the total volume of the smoothie in litres.
- 13.Butter costs £2.40 per kg. Work out the cost of the butter in pence per 100 g.
- 14.A section of a kitchen wall has an area of 45,000 cm². Work out the area of this section in m².
- 15.A glass holds 250 ml of squash. Work out how many of these glasses are needed to fill a 1 litre bottle.
