- 1.y is inversely proportional to x. When x = 5, y = 8. Work out the value of y when x = 10.
- 2.Jamal invests £600 in a savings account paying 3% simple interest per year. Work out the total amount in the account after 4 years.
- 3.The table shows values of x and y. x: 3, 5, 8. y: 12, 20, 32. Which statement correctly describes the relationship between x and y?
- 4.Two mathematically similar oil drums have a length scale factor of 3 from the smaller drum to the larger drum. Work out the volume scale factor from the smaller drum to the larger drum.
- 5.A factory machine produces bottles at a constant rate. In 45 minutes it produces 810 bottles. The factory needs 2,160 bottles for an order. Working at the same rate, work out how many minutes it will take to produce the order.
- 6.After a 20% discount, a jacket costs £48. Work out the original price of the jacket.
- 7.A map has a scale of 1 : 20 000. A different map of the same area has a scale of 1 : 80 000. A lake's shoreline is drawn 5 cm long on the first map. Work out the length of the same shoreline on the second map, in centimetres.
- 8.A shop buys a bike for £150 and sells it, making a profit of £45. Write the selling price as a fraction of the cost price, giving your answer in its simplest form.
- 9.A company's profit this year is 130% of last year's profit. Last year's profit was £40,000. Work out this year's profit.
- 10.A car travels 150 km in 3 hours at a constant speed. Work out the average speed of the car, in km/h.
- 11.An acid solution has a concentration of 20%. The solution contains 40 g of acid, and the rest of the solution is water. Work out the mass of water in the solution.
- 12.A jug of squash is made by mixing water and syrup in the ratio 6:1. Nia wants to make 8.4 litres of squash. Work out how much syrup she needs, in litres.
- 13.In a car park there are 35 cars and 15 vans. Write the ratio of the number of vans to the number of cars in its simplest form.
- 14.Which of these ratios is equivalent to 2:3?
- 15.Three numbers are in the ratio 1:2:3. The three numbers add up to 72. Work out the largest of the three numbers.
