- 1.A scale drawing of a park has a scale of 1 : 2500. On the drawing, the distance between the entrance and the lake is 4.4 cm. A jogger runs from the entrance to the lake and then back to the entrance. Work out the total distance the jogger runs, in kilometres.
- 2.Work out the value of x when 4/x = 2/5.
- 3.The density of a type of solid plastic is 0.9 g/cm³. Work out the mass of 0.5 m³ of the plastic, in kilograms.
- 4.A metal has a density of 7.8 g/cm³. Work out the density of the metal in kg/m³.
- 5.A textbook is reduced from £60 to £45. Work out the percentage reduction.
- 6.Write the ratio 0.75 : 2 as a ratio of whole numbers in its simplest form.
- 7.A map's scale is given as '1 cm represents 2 km'. Write this scale in the form 1 : n.
- 8.A shop buys a bike for £150 and sells it, making a profit of £45. Write the selling price as a fraction of the cost price, giving your answer in its simplest form.
- 9.Grace's mean mark in her maths tests rises from 70 to 84. Work out the percentage increase in her mean mark.
- 10.A ratio is 3 : 5. Write the first part of the ratio as a fraction of the whole.
- 11.A water tank is a cuboid measuring 30 cm × 20 cm × 10 cm. The tank is full of water. Work out how many litres of water it holds.
- 12.Triangle ABC is mathematically similar to triangle PQR, with AB corresponding to PQ and BC corresponding to QR. AB = 6 cm, BC = 8 cm and PQ = 12 cm. Work out the length of QR.
- 13.After a 20% discount, a jacket costs £48. Work out the original price of the jacket.
- 14.Maya buys a vintage car for £15000. Its value is expected to increase by 4% each year for 2 years. She then plans to sell the car and use £2000 of the money from the sale to buy a trailer. Work out how much money she will have left after selling the car and buying the trailer.
- 15.The value of a rare coin increases by 12% each year. The coin is currently worth £270. Work out the value of the coin after 2 years, giving your answer to the nearest penny.
