- 1.A shop records the colour of every car that uses its car park one Tuesday. Its frequency table reads: black 44, silver 37, blue 26, red 18, white 12. Write down the frequency of black cars.
- 2.A two-way table records whether each of the 30 pupils in a class passed maths and whether they passed science. 18 pupils passed maths, 12 pupils passed science and 8 pupils passed both. Work out how many pupils passed at least one of the two subjects.
- 3.A line graph shows the temperature in a greenhouse at the end of each of six hours. The six readings were 10 °C, 14 °C, 18 °C, 22 °C, 26 °C and 30 °C. Describe the trend shown by the line graph.
- 4.A teacher records the number of pets owned by each of 25 pupils in a class; each pupil owns 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 pets. The teacher wants to show how many pupils own each number of pets. Write down the most suitable type of chart for this data, and give a reason for your answer.
- 5.A dual bar chart shows how many boys and how many girls are in a class. The bar for boys stands at 14 and the bar for girls stands at 16. Work out how many pupils are in the class altogether.
- 6.A two-way table records whether each of 40 people at a gym in Sheffield prefers weights or cardio, and whether they are male or female. 24 of the 40 people are female. 15 of the males prefer cardio. 10 of the females prefer weights. Work out the total number of people who prefer cardio.
- 7.A vertical line chart shows the number of goals scored by a football team in each of its 20 matches: 0 goals in 4 matches, 1 goal in 7 matches, 2 goals in 6 matches and 3 goals in 3 matches. Write down the modal number of goals.
- 8.A garden centre's sales, in thousands of pounds, at the end of each quarter last year were: quarter 1 — 18, quarter 2 — 34, quarter 3 — 30, quarter 4 — 22. Work out the increase in sales from quarter 1 to the quarter with the highest sales.
- 9.A two-way table records whether each of 50 pupils in Year 10 or Year 11 at a school walks to school or is driven. 28 of the 50 pupils are in Year 10. In total, 22 of the 50 pupils walk to school. Of the Year 10 pupils, 15 walk to school. Work out how many Year 11 pupils are driven to school.
- 10.A vertical line chart shows the number of pets owned by each pupil in a class: 0 pets — 5 pupils, 1 pet — 4 pupils, 2 pets — 3 pupils, 3 pets — 3 pupils. Work out the total number of pupils in the class.
- 11.In a vertical line chart of test results, the tallest line stands for 40 pupils. The same results are to be shown in a pie chart of all 100 pupils. Work out the angle at the centre of the sector that will stand for those 40 pupils.
- 12.A pie chart of the favourite hobby of a group of pupils has three sectors: reading 50%, sport 25% and music 25%. Write down, as a fraction in its simplest form, the share of the pie chart taken up by the reading sector.
- 13.A timetable shows the departure times of a bus from Leeds to Harrogate: 08:15, 08:50, 09:25, 10:05, 10:40. Chloe arrives at the bus stop at 09:30. Work out how many minutes she has to wait for the next bus.
- 14.A sports centre in Newcastle asks 60 members which activity they prefer: swimming 15 members, football 25 members, badminton 12 members and other activities 8 members. Work out the angle at the centre of the pie chart sector that represents badminton.
- 15.A frequency polygon for the mass, in kg, of 40 parcels at a delivery depot is drawn by plotting one point at the midpoint of each class, joined by straight lines: (5, 6), (15, 10), (25, 16), (35, 6), (45, 2). Every class has a width of 10 kg. Write down the modal class.
