- 1.The line y = 2x + 7 and the circle x² + y² = 4 are given. By finding the discriminant of the resulting quadratic, without solving it fully, work out how many points the line and the circle intersect at.y = 2x + 7
- 2.A theatre has rows of seats arranged so that row 1 has 12 seats, row 2 has 17 seats, row 3 has 22 seats and row 4 has 27 seats, with each row having 5 more seats than the row before. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the number of seats in row n.
- 3.A straight line passes through the points (2, 5) and (4, 11). Work out the gradient of the line.
- 4.The formula connecting speed, distance and time is v = s ÷ t. Work out v, in km/h, when s = 180 and t = 4.
- 5.A circle has centre O(0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 169. The point Q has coordinates (10, 11). Work out which of these gives the correct position of Q together with correct working.
- 6.(2x + 3)(x + a) ≡ 2x² + 11x + 12 is an identity. Work out the value of a.

- 12.Work out the gradient of the straight line that passes through the points (−1, 5) and (3, −7).
- 13.A square tile has an area of 144 cm². Work out the side length of the tile.
- 14.When a number is added to its square the result is 30. Work out the possible values of the number.
- 15.Solve x² − 100 = 0.
