- 1.Factorise fully 56x − 24
- 2.Work out the equation of the straight line through the points (−2, 1) and (0, 7).
- 3.The first five terms of a sequence are 7, 9, 13, 19, 27. By finding the second difference, work out the coefficient of n² in the nth term.
- 4.Work out the value of a² − 2b when a = −3 and b = 4.
- 5.Line L has equation y = 3x + 1. Which of these lines is perpendicular to L?y = 3x + 1
- 6.There are 30 students in a Year 10 maths class. There are 2 more boys than girls. Work out the number of boys and the number of girls.
- 7.A graph passes through the point (0, 1). As x increases through positive values, the graph rises more and more steeply, and as x decreases through negative values, the graph gets closer and closer to the x-axis without ever reaching it. Which of these could be the equation of the graph?
- 8.The formula for the volume of a cuboid is V = lwh, where l is the length, w is the width and h is the height. Make h the subject of the formula.
- 9.The table shows the height, in metres, of a firework rocket at various times, in seconds, during its flight: 40 at t = 2, 54 at t = 3, and 60 at t = 4. Use the chord between t = 2 and t = 4 to estimate the gradient of the height-time graph at t = 3, stating the correct units.
- 10.A circle has centre (0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 100. A straight line is drawn from the origin through the point P(8, 9). Work out whether P lies inside, on, or outside the circle.
- 11.The first four terms of a sequence are 2, 2√3, 6, 6√3, ... Work out the next term.
- 12.A student says that (x + 4)² is equivalent to x² + 16. For which value of x do the two expressions give the SAME result, making it look (misleadingly) like the student could be right?
- 13.Solve the simultaneous equations 2x + y = 7 and x − y = 2.
- 14.Line P has equation y = −2x + 5 and line Q has equation 2y = x + 6. Are lines P and Q perpendicular to each other?y = -2x + 5y = x + 6
- 15.The nth term of a sequence is 4n − 3. Work out the 7th term of the sequence.
