- 1.A number, n, is doubled and then 7 is subtracted. The result is 15. Form an equation and solve it to find n.

- 7.In a shop a shirt costs £x and a pair of trousers costs £(2x + 30). Together the two items cost at least £150. Work out the lowest possible price of the shirt.
- 8.The nth term of a sequence is 4n + 2. A term in the sequence has value 30. Work out its position, n, in the sequence.
- 9.The point (5, −12) lies on the circle x² + y² = 169, which has centre (0, 0). Work out the equation of the tangent to the circle at (5, −12), giving your answer in the form y = mx + c.
- 10.The curve y = x² − 6 and the line y = 2x − 3 intersect at two points. Which pair of points is correct?y = 2x − 3y = x² − 6
- 11.The graph of y = f(x) has a minimum turning point at (3, 2). Write down the coordinates of the minimum turning point of the graph of y = f(x) + 5.
- 12.Solve x² − 6x = 0.
- 13.A quadratic graph has equation y = (x − 4)². A student says this graph crosses the x-axis at two different points. Explain why the student is wrong.
