- 1.A garden path runs along the line 4x + y = 12. A drainage pipe must be laid perpendicular to the path, passing through the point (3, 1) where a sprinkler sits. Work out the equation of the pipe's line, giving your answer in the form y = mx + c.
- 2.A circle has centre (0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 36. Work out the coordinates of the two points where the circle crosses the y-axis.
- 3.p = 4. Work out the value of 2p³.
- 4.The nth term of a sequence is n² − 2n + 5. Work out the 10th term.
- 5.A geometric sequence has first term 3 and common ratio √2. Work out the 6th term of the sequence, giving your answer in the form a√2.
- 6.Write down the expression that means the same as m² × m × 3.
- 7.A parcel delivery company's cost graph shows the following: the cost is a flat £5 for parcels weighing up to 2 kg, and then rises by £2 for each additional kg above 2 kg. Use the graph to work out the weight of a parcel that costs £17.
- 8.The solution set of a quadratic inequality is {x : x ≤ −3} ∪ {x : x ≥ 5}. Which of these inequalities has this solution set?
- 9.A cafe sells coffees at £c each and pastries at £p each. Three coffees and two pastries cost £9.60. Two coffees and two pastries cost £7.60. Work out the price of one coffee.
- 10.A geometric sequence has first term 4 and common ratio √2. Work out the sum of the first three terms of the sequence, giving your answer in the form a + b√2.
- 11.A rule turns each input x into an output y. An input of 1 gives an output of 1, an input of 2 gives an output of 4 and an input of 3 gives an output of 9. Work out the rule.
- 12.The nth term of a sequence is 4n − 3. Work out the 7th term of the sequence.
- 13.A sequence begins at 50, and each term after that is found by subtracting 8 from the term before it. Priya says the 8th term of the sequence is negative. Is Priya correct?
- 14.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation 3y = 12 − 6x.
- 15.The diagram shows the graph of the cost, in pounds, of a taxi journey plotted against the distance travelled, in miles, for journeys of up to 4 miles. The same fixed charge and the same cost per mile apply to longer journeys. Work out the cost of a 6-mile journey.
