- 1.On a distance-time graph, a horizontal line segment shows a period when the graph's gradient is 0. What does this tell you about the journey during that time?
- 2.A number, n, is doubled and then 7 is subtracted. The result is 15. Form an equation and solve it to find n.
- 3.The graph of y = f(x) has x-intercepts at x = −2 and x = 6 and crosses the y-axis at (0, −12). Work out the x-intercepts and the y-intercept of y = −f(x).
- 4.A water tank empties according to y = −5x + 200, where y is the number of litres left after x minutes. Work out the coordinates of the point where this graph crosses the x-axis.y = -5x + 200
- 5.Factorise 3x² + 10x − 8.
- 6.f(x) = 2x + 1. Work out the value of x for which f⁻¹(x) = 5.y = 2x + 1
- 7.Simplify (2x² + 7x + 3) ÷ (x² − 9), giving your answer as a single fraction.
- 8.Harry will spend at most £150 on a party. The cake costs £60 and each helium balloon costs £3. Solve an inequality to find all the possible numbers of balloons, x, that he can buy.
- 9.Solve the inequality x² ≥ 16, giving your answer using set notation.
- 10.A hiker's distance-time graph shows the following: he walks 5 km in the first 1 hour at a steady speed, rests for 1 hour, then walks a further 9 km in the next 2 hours, also at a steady speed. Work out his average speed for the whole journey, in km/h.
- 11.The graph of y = x² − 4x is translated by the vector (3, 0). Work out the equation of the image, giving your answer in the form y = x² + bx + c.y = x² − 4xy = x²
- 12.The point A(−6, 8) lies on the circle x² + y² = 100, whose centre is the origin O. The tangent to the circle at A crosses the y-axis at the point B. Work out the length of OB.
- 13.Describe a sequence of two transformations that maps the graph of y = cos x onto the graph of y = cos(x + 90°) − 2.y = cos(x)
- 14.A student solves the simultaneous equations 2x + y = 11 and x − y = 1 by elimination, adding the two equations together. Which of these is the correct result of that step?
- 15.A water butt holds 200 litres and is being drained at a steady 8 litres per minute. Write down the function for the amount of water y, in litres, left after x minutes.
