- 1.Solve 7x − 5 = 3x + 11
- 2.The equation x² − 4x + k = 0 has two different real solutions. Work out the range of values of k.
- 3.The area under a speed-time graph between t = 0 and t = 6 seconds is estimated using three strips of equal width, using the speeds, in m/s, at t = 0, 2, 4 and 6: 0, 5, 9 and 12. Using the trapezium rule with these three trapezia, estimate the distance travelled.
- 4.A student solves the simultaneous equations 2x + y = 11 and x − y = 1 by elimination, adding the two equations together. Which of these is the correct result of that step?
- 5.The point (20, 21) lies on the circle x² + y² = 841, which has centre O(0, 0). The tangent to the circle at (20, 21) crosses the x-axis at P and the y-axis at Q. Work out the area of triangle OPQ, correct to 1 decimal place.
- 6.A circle has centre (0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 36. Work out the coordinates of the two points where the circle crosses the y-axis.
- 7.A car park charges a £4 fixed fee plus £3 for each hour. Kofi has exactly £25 to spend on parking. Using the inequality 4 + 3h ≤ 25, work out the greatest number of whole hours, h, he can park for.
- 8.The mass of a chemical sample decays by 15% every hour. It starts at 500 g. Work out the mass remaining after 3 hours, correct to 1 decimal place.
- 9.The formula y = x² + 1 gives y in terms of x. Work out the value of y when x = −2.y = x² + 1
- 10.Solve the inequality 2(x − 1) ≤ 8.
- 11.A straight line passes through the points (1, 3) and (2, 5). Work out the equation of the line.
- 12.On a distance-time graph, a horizontal line segment shows a period when the graph's gradient is 0. What does this tell you about the journey during that time?
- 13.The solution set of an inequality is described as: x is less than −3, or x is greater than or equal to 1. Write this solution set using set notation.
- 14.Factorise 3x² + 10x − 8.
- 15.Solve 3x + 14 = 8x − 6
