- 1.Line L has equation y = 2x + 3. Work out the equation of the line perpendicular to L that passes through the point (4, 1), giving your answer in the form x + 2y = c.y = 2x + 3
- 2.The first five terms of a sequence are 7, 9, 13, 19, 27. By finding the second difference, work out the coefficient of n² in the nth term.
- 3.Point P has coordinates (2, −5). P is reflected in the x-axis to point Q. Write down the coordinates of Q.
- 4.A straight line passes through the points (2, 7) and (5, 16). Work out the value of y when x = 0.
- 5.f(x) = 3x − 2. Find f⁻¹(x).y = 3x − 2
- 6.A person's body mass index is given by the formula B = m ÷ h², where m is the mass in kg and h is the height in metres. Work out B, to 1 decimal place, when m = 68 and h = 1.6.
- 7.The graph of y = sin x is reflected in the x-axis to give the graph of y = g(x). Work out the value of g(90), where x is measured in degrees.y = sin(x)
- 8.A box holds n pencils. A shop has 6 full boxes and 4 loose pencils. All of these pencils are shared equally between 2 classes. Write down the expression for the number of pencils each class receives.
- 9.The nth term of a sequence is n² + 3. Work out the first term of the sequence that is greater than 50.
- 10.The nth term of a geometric sequence is given by aₙ = 3 × 2ⁿ⁻¹. Work out the position of the first term that is greater than 1,000.
- 11.Which of these statements is an identity?
- 12.A van's value depreciates by 18% each year. After 2 years it is worth £5,379.20. Work out its value when it was new, correct to the nearest pound.
- 13.A rectangular garden has width w metres and length (w + 3) metres. A gardener writes its perimeter as 2w + 3. Which statement corrects the gardener's mistake?
- 14.A gas company charges a standing charge plus a rate per unit used. The total cost, y in pounds, for using x units is given by y = 0.15x + 20. Work out the cost of using 200 units.y = 0.15x + 20
