- 1.The point (3, 4) lies on the circle x² + y² = 25, which has centre (0, 0). Work out the gradient of the tangent to the circle at (3, 4).
- 2.Solve x² + 3x − 10 = 0.
- 3.Which of these pairs of lines are perpendicular to each other?
- 4.A rule turns each input x into an output y. The inputs are x = 1, 2, 3, 4 and the matching outputs are y = −5, −3, −1 and one missing value. Work out the missing value of y.
- 5.The nth term of a sequence is n² + 3. Work out the first term of the sequence that is greater than 50.
- 6.Factorise x² − 3x − 10.
- 7.Two numbers have a sum of 50. The larger number is twice the smaller number. Work out the smaller number.
- 8.Solve 7x − 5 = 3x + 11
- 9.The point (5, −12) lies on the circle x² + y² = 169, which has centre (0, 0). Work out the equation of the tangent to the circle at (5, −12), giving your answer in the form y = mx + c.
- 10.A sequence begins at 60, and each term after that is found by subtracting 7 from the term before it. Work out the 5th term of the sequence.
- 11.An equation has exactly one value of x that makes it true, but an identity is true for every value of x. Which of these best explains why 3x + 5 = 20 is an equation rather than an identity?
- 12.Write down the expression that means the same as m² × m × 3.
- 13.The graph of y = sin x is transformed onto the graph of y = sin x + 1. Which statement correctly describes the transformation and the new range of the graph?y = sin(x)
- 14.The point (3, 6) lies on the circle x² + y² = 45. The tangent to the circle at (3, 6) crosses the x-axis at the point P. Work out the coordinates of P.
- 15.The first five terms of a quadratic sequence are 5, 8, 13, 20, 29. Work out the next term in the sequence.
