- 1.The first five terms of a quadratic sequence are −1, 4, 13, 26, 43. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the nth term.
- 2.Solve 4x² − 9 = 0.
- 3.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² − 3, where n is the position number. Work out the difference between the 6th term and the 5th term.
- 4.A recipe gives the cooking time, in minutes, for a chicken as T = 40m + 20, where m is the mass in kg. A chicken has a mass of 1.8 kg. Work out the cooking time in hours and minutes.
- 5.The point (3, 6) lies on the circle x² + y² = 45. The tangent to the circle at (3, 6) crosses the x-axis at the point P. Work out the coordinates of P.
- 6.The point (3, 4) lies on the circle x² + y² = 25, which has centre (0, 0). Work out the gradient of the tangent to the circle at (3, 4).
- 7.A Fibonacci-type sequence begins 3, 5, 8, 13, ... where each term after the second is the sum of the two terms before it. Work out the 7th term of the sequence.
- 8.Simplify (2x² + 7x + 3) ÷ (x² − 9), giving your answer as a single fraction.
- 9.Yusuf has £40 saved and adds £6 each week. His sister Aisha has £10 saved and adds £11 each week. After how many weeks will they have saved the same amount?
- 10.A cinema sells adult tickets for £10 and child tickets for £6. A family group buys 9 tickets in total, spending £74. Work out how many adult tickets were bought.
- 11.A stack of firewood has 3 logs in the top layer. Each layer below has 4 more logs than the layer above it. Work out the number of logs in the 6th layer from the top.
- 12.A park is drawn on a grid in which 1 unit represents 1 km. The car park is at the point (0, 0) and the lake is at the point (3, 5). Work out the direct distance, in km, from the car park to the lake, giving your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 13.The diagram shows the graph of a function. Which equation could it represent?
- 14.The graph of y = f(x) has a minimum turning point at (4, −5). The graph of y = f(x) + a has a minimum turning point whose minimum VALUE is 2. Work out the value of a, and state the coordinates of the minimum turning point of y = f(x) + a.
- 15.Line L has equation y = 3x − 2. Work out the gradient of a line perpendicular to L.y = 3x − 2
