- 1.Factorise 6x² − 7x − 3.
- 2.A sequence is defined by aₙ = aₙ₋₁ + aₙ₋₂ for n ≥ 3. Given that a₃ = 11 and a₅ = 29, work out a₁.
- 3.Factorise x² − 3x − 10.
- 4.A line has equation y = −4x + 1. Work out the equation of the line perpendicular to it that passes through the point (0, 3).y = -4x + 1
- 5.A walker's distance-time graph is described as follows: she walks 3 km in the first 15 minutes at a steady speed, rests for 10 minutes, then walks a further 3 km in the next 20 minutes, also at a steady speed. Work out her speed, in km/h, during the first 15 minutes.
- 6.A gym charges a reduced price for the first month of membership and a standard price for every month after that. The total cost is £5 for 1 month, £12 for 2 months, £19 for 3 months and £26 for 4 months. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the total cost, in pounds, of n months of membership.
- 7.Work out the value of a² − 2b when a = −3 and b = 4.
- 8.A ramp rises 3 m over a horizontal distance of 12 m. Work out the gradient of the ramp.
- 9.The graph of y = 2x² + 6x − 1 is translated by the vector (−2, 0). Work out the equation of the image, giving your answer in the form y = 2x² + bx + c.y = 2x² + 6x − 1y = 2x²
- 10.Make x the subject of the formula y = 5x + 3.y = 5x + 3
- 11.Line L has equation y = 3x + 1. Which of these lines is perpendicular to L?y = 3x + 1
- 12.A printer starts a job with 480 sheets of paper loaded and prints at a steady rate. The number of sheets left, S, after t minutes is given by S = 480 − 24t. Work out how many minutes it takes for the paper to run out completely.
- 13.The solution set of an inequality is described as: x is less than −3, or x is greater than or equal to 1. Write this solution set using set notation.
- 14.The point (5, −12) lies on the circle x² + y² = 169, which has centre (0, 0). Work out the equation of the tangent to the circle at (5, −12), giving your answer in the form y = mx + c.
- 15.A student is asked whether 3(x − 4) = 3x − 4 is an identity. Which statement gives the correct verdict and reason?
