- 1.Write down the expression that means the same as 'subtract 5 from n, then divide the result by 2'.
- 2.Six years ago Harry was three times as old as his brother Leo. Harry is now 24 years old. Work out Leo's age now.

- 7.A gardener charges a fixed fee of £15 plus £8 for each hour worked. The total charge, £T, for a job lasting h hours is given by T = 15 + 8h. Work out the charge for a job lasting 4 hours, and identify what kind of statement T = 15 + 8h is.
- 8.The iterative formula xₙ₊₁ = 12 ÷ (xₙ + 2) is used repeatedly, starting from x₀ = 1. Work out the value that xₙ approaches, correct to 2 decimal places.
- 9.Amelia's mother is three times as old as Amelia. Four years ago her mother was five times as old as Amelia was then. Work out Amelia's age now.
- 10.Work out the value of 2x² when x = −3
- 11.The nth term of a sequence is 4n + 2. A term in the sequence has value 30. Work out its position, n, in the sequence.
- 12.The perimeter of a rectangle is given by the formula P = 2(l + w), where l is the length and w is the width. A rectangular garden has a perimeter of 46 m and a length of 14 m. Rearrange the formula to make w the subject, then work out the width of the garden.
- 13.By completing the square, find the turning point of the curve y = x² − 10x + 30.y = x² − 10x + 30
- 14.Solve 3(2x − 1) = 27
- 15.Expand and simplify (x + 1)(x + 2)(x + 3).
