- 1.Write down the gradient of the line with equation y = −x + 3.y = −x + 3
- 2.A region R satisfies y ≤ x + 1, x + y ≤ 5 and y ≥ 0. Which of these correctly describes R in words?
- 3.p = 4. Work out the value of 2p³.
- 4.A rectangle has width x cm. Its length is 3 cm more than its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 38 cm. Form an equation and solve it to find x.
- 5.Solve the inequality 6.3x + 1.8 ≤ 40. Hence write down the greatest number with exactly one decimal place that satisfies the inequality.
- 6.The iterative formula xₙ₊₁ = 5 − 3/xₙ is used with starting value x₀ = 2.5, so that x₁ is the value after the formula has been used once. Work out x₄ correct to 3 significant figures.
- 7.Simplify 2/(x + 1) + 3/(x − 2), giving your answer as a single fraction.
- 8.The graph of y = f(x) has a minimum turning point at (3, −5), crosses the x-axis at x = 1, and crosses the y-axis at (0, −2). Exactly one of these statements about the graph of y = −f(x + 2) is true. Which statement is true?
- 9.A phone company works out a monthly bill, £B, using the formula B = 18 + 0.05t, where £18 is the fixed monthly charge and t is the number of extra text messages sent beyond the free allowance, each charged at 5p. Farida's bill for one month is £24.50. Work out the number of extra text messages, t, she sent.
- 10.Work out the gradient of a line that is perpendicular to the line with equation 2x + 3y = 6.
- 11.Write y = x² + 12x + 40 in the form (x + a)² + b, and hence write down the minimum value of y.y = x² + 12x + 40
- 12.A circle has centre (0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 50. Work out the length of the diameter of the circle, correct to 1 decimal place.
- 13.A line has equation y = −4x + 1. Work out the equation of the line perpendicular to it that passes through the point (0, 3).y = -4x + 1
- 14.To solve 6x − 4 = 2x + 20, Yusuf's first step is to subtract 2x from both sides. Work out what equation this gives.
- 15.The formula connecting distance (d), speed (s) and time (t) is d = st. Make s the subject of the formula.
