- 1.Solve 3x + 14 = 8x − 6
- 2.A person's body mass index is given by the formula B = m ÷ h², where m is the mass in kg and h is the height in metres. Work out B, to 1 decimal place, when m = 68 and h = 1.6.
- 3.The formula for the area of a trapezium is A = (a + b)h / 2, where a and b are the parallel side lengths and h is the height. Make h the subject of the formula.
- 4.A rule turns each input x into an output y. The inputs are x = 0, 1, 2, 3 and the outputs are y = 4, 7, 10, 13. Work out the output when x = 5.
- 5.A theatre's front row has 18 seats. Each row behind has 4 more seats than the row in front. Which row has exactly 62 seats?
- 6.The diagram shows the graph of the cost, in pounds, of a taxi journey plotted against the distance travelled, in miles, for journeys of up to 4 miles. The same fixed charge and the same cost per mile apply to longer journeys. Work out the cost of a 6-mile journey.
- 7.A circle has centre (0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 100. Work out which one of these points lies on the circle.
- 8.Describe the single transformation that maps the graph of y = x² onto the graph of y = x² + 3.y = x²y = x² + 3
- 9.Make x the subject of the formula y = 4x − 3.y = 4x − 3
- 10.Make x the subject of the formula y = 2x − 9.y = 2x − 9
- 11.Line L has equation y = 3x + 1. Which of these lines is perpendicular to L?y = 3x + 1
- 12.Simplify (x² − 9) ÷ (x² + 5x + 6).
- 13.Solve x² − 100 = 0.
- 14.Solve the inequality 6.3x + 1.8 ≤ 40. Hence write down the greatest number with exactly one decimal place that satisfies the inequality.
- 15.By completing the square, show that the curve y = x² − 14x + 50 never crosses the x-axis. Which statement gives the correct reason?y = x² − 14x + 50
