- 1.Describe the single transformation that maps the graph of y = f(x) onto the graph of y = f(−x).
- 2.The formula for the energy stored in a stretched spring is E = (1/2)kx², where E is in joules, k is the spring constant in N/m and x is the extension in m. A spring with a spring constant of 40 N/m is stretched so that its extension is 0.3 m. Work out the energy stored in the spring.
- 3.A rectangular sheep pen has perimeter P, length l and width w, connected by the formula P = 2l + 2w. A farmer has 60 m of fencing for the perimeter and sets the width at 8 m. Work out the length of the pen.
- 4.A phone plan costs a fixed £15 per month plus 8p per minute of calls. In one month, Jamal's bill was £23.80. Form an equation using m for the number of minutes, and solve it to find how many minutes Jamal used that month.
- 5.Work out the period of the graph of y = cos x, in degrees.y = cos(x)
- 6.The solution set of a quadratic inequality is {x : x ≤ −3} ∪ {x : x ≥ 5}. Which of these inequalities has this solution set?
- 7.The graph of y = f(x) passes through the point (2, 7). The graph of y = f(x) + a passes through the point (2, 3). Work out the value of a.
- 8.One solution of the equation x² − (k + 1)x + k = 0 is x = 3. Work out the value of k.
- 9.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² + 2, where n is the position number. Work out the 6th term.
- 10.A stack of firewood has 3 logs in the top layer. Each layer below has 4 more logs than the layer above it. Work out the number of logs in the 6th layer from the top.
- 11.By completing the square, find the turning point of the curve y = 3x² + 12x + 7.y = 3x² + 12x + 7
