- 1.f(x) = x + 3 and g(x) = 2x. Work out fg(x).y = x + 3
- 2.Water is poured into a container at a constant rate. A graph of the depth of the water, in cm, against the time since pouring began, in minutes, is a straight line through the origin, and it passes through the point (3, 12). Use the graph to work out the depth of the water after 7 minutes.
- 3.Write down the expression that means the same as (x + 7) ÷ 4.
- 4.The point (9, 12) lies on the circle x² + y² = 225, which has centre (0, 0). The tangent to the circle at (9, 12) crosses the x-axis at the point P. Work out the x-coordinate of P.
- 5.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation 3y = 12 − 6x.
- 6.Solve (3x + 2)/5 = (x + 4)/3
- 7.Factorise fully 12x² + 18x.
- 8.The iterative formula xₙ₊₁ = √(2xₙ + 3) is used repeatedly, starting from x₀ = 1. As n increases, the values of xₙ converge to a limit, L. Work out L.
- 9.Work out the value of (x − 4)/2 + 3 when x = 10
- 10.Isla says that the lines y = 2x + 1 and y = −2x + 3 are parallel. Write down the statement that gives the correct answer for the correct reason.y = 2x + 1y = -2x + 3
- 11.An exponential model has equation y = A × bˣ, where b > 1. Its graph passes through the points (1, 135) and (2, 405). Work out the value of A.
- 12.Which of these pairs of lines are perpendicular to each other?
- 13.The equation x² + 2x − 5 = 0 can be solved using the iterative formula xₙ₊₁ = 5/(xₙ + 2). The starting value is x₀ = 1, so x₁ is the value after the formula has been used once. Work out x₂ correct to 2 decimal places.
- 14.A circle has centre (0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 64. Write down the radius of the circle.
- 15.Which of these is a factor of 15x + 20?
