- 1.A rope of length L metres is cut into 6 equal pieces, and 4 metres is then removed from one piece. Write an expression, in metres, for the length of that piece after the cut.
- 2.A circle has centre (0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 25. Work out the x-coordinates of the two points where the circle crosses the line y = 3.
- 3.How many turning points does the graph of y = x² − 7x + 10 have?y = x² − 7x + 10
- 4.Solve the simultaneous equations 5x − 2y = 16 and 3x + 2y = 16. Work out the value of x.
- 5.f(x) = 2x² + 1 and g(x) = x − 1. Work out fg(x), giving your answer in expanded form.y = 2x² + 1
- 6.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² + 1, where n is the position number. Work out how much bigger the 5th term is than the 4th term.
- 7.On a map, where each grid unit represents 1 km, Ravi's house is at (−3, 4) and the library is at (6, 4). Work out the distance between Ravi's house and the library.
- 8.A ferry's distance-time graph is a straight line from (0 minutes, 0 km) to (25 minutes, 15 km). Work out the ferry's speed in kilometres per hour.
- 9.A candle is 30 cm tall when lit and burns at a constant rate. After burning for 5 minutes, its height is 20 cm. The height h cm after t minutes is given by h = 30 − mt. Work out the value of m.
- 10.The formula for the perimeter of a rectangle is P = 2(l + w). One rectangle has l = 9 cm and w = 4 cm. A second rectangle has l = 6 cm and w = 5 cm. Work out how many cm greater the perimeter of the first rectangle is than the perimeter of the second.
- 11.Solve the inequality 9 − 2x ≥ 1.
- 12.Which of these quadratic graphs does NOT cross the x-axis at all?
- 13.Write down the expression that means the same as (x + 7) ÷ 4.
- 14.Line L has equation y = 2x + 3. Work out the equation of the line perpendicular to L that passes through the point (4, 1), giving your answer in the form x + 2y = c.y = 2x + 3
- 15.A rectangular sheep pen has perimeter P, length l and width w, connected by the formula P = 2l + 2w. A farmer has 60 m of fencing for the perimeter and sets the width at 8 m. Work out the length of the pen.
