- 1.A straight line touches the edge of a circle at exactly one point and does not cross into the circle at all. Write down the term for this line.
- 2.A circle has diameter 10 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the circumference of the circle.
- 3.A circle has centre O. PQ, RS and TU are three chords of the circle, and only one of them passes through O. Write down what this tells you about that chord.

- 5.A circular table mat has diameter 20 cm. Yasmin has a 70 cm length of ribbon and sews it around the edge of the mat with no overlap. Using π = 3.14, work out how much ribbon is left over after going around the mat once.
- 6.A chord divides a circle into two segments of different sizes. Write down the name given to the smaller of the two segments.
- 7.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° at the centre. Write down what fraction of the whole circle this sector represents.
- 8.In one circle, chord PQ is 6 cm long, chord RS is 10 cm long, chord TU is 14 cm long and chord VW is 15 cm long. Write down which of these chords lies closest to the centre of the circle.
- 9.Every diameter of a circle is an example of a more general type of straight line joining two points on the circle. Which term names that more general type of line?
- 10.A chord divides a circle into two regions, one larger than the other. Write down the term used for the smaller of these two regions.
- 11.Two points on a circle divide its circumference into two arcs of different lengths. Write down the name given to the shorter of the two arcs.
- 12.A tangent touches a circle with centre O at the point P. Q is a point on the tangent. Write down the circle fact that tells you the size of angle OPQ.
- 13.A tangent to a circle with centre O touches the circle at point P, where OP = 5 cm. Point Q lies on the tangent so that PQ = 12 cm. Using the fact that a tangent is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact, work out the length OQ.
- 14.A trundle wheel has a diameter of 0.5 m. It is rolled along the ground and makes 20 complete turns. Using π = 3.14, work out the total distance rolled, in metres.
- 15.A circle has circumference 31.4 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
