- 1.A drone flies from base station D on a bearing of 065° for 14 km to a checkpoint E. At E it changes course and flies on a bearing of 165° for 20 km to a delivery point F. Work out the direct distance from D to F. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 2.In triangle ABC, AB = 9 cm, angle BAC = 50° and the area of the triangle is 36 cm². Work out the length of AC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 3.In triangle ABC, AB = 15.6 cm, AC = 8.9 cm and angle BAC = 112°, the angle between them. Work out the area of triangle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 4.The angle between north and a cycle path is 40°, but it is measured anticlockwise from north. What is the three-figure bearing of the cycle path?
- 5.A footpath is 3750 m long. Work out this distance in kilometres.
- 6.A flagpole is 12 m tall. Freya stands 9 m from the base of the flagpole on level ground. Work out the angle of elevation of the top of the flagpole from where Freya stands. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 7.A square-based pyramid has a square base whose diagonal is 14 cm, and each slant edge of the pyramid, from a base vertex to the apex, is 15 cm. Work out the height of the pyramid. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 8.A drone starts at the point (3.5, −2) on a grid measured in metres. It flies by the vector to check a first sensor. The drone then needs to fly in a straight line to reach the point (−1.7, 9) to check a second sensor. Work out the column vector of this second flight.
- 9.A circle has centre O and radius 10 cm. Points A and B lie on the circle such that angle AOB = 130°. Work out the area of the minor segment cut off by the chord AB. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 10.A model car is built to a scale of 1 : 24. The real car is 4.32 m long. Work out the length of the model, in centimetres.
- 11.Two vertical masts stand on level ground, 40 m apart. One mast is 30 m tall and the other is 50 m tall. Work out the straight-line distance between the tops of the two masts. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 12.A triangular sail for a small boat has a base of 2.4 m and a height of 1.75 m. Sailcloth costs £12.50 per m². Work out the total cost of the sailcloth needed for the sail.
- 13.A triangular prism has a cross-section that is a triangle with a base of 3.5 cm and a perpendicular height of 4 cm. The prism is 10 cm long. Work out the volume of the prism.
- 14.A triangular flower bed ABC has AB = 14 m, BC = 9 m and AC = 11 m. Work out the area of the flower bed. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 15.In triangle ABC, AB = 9 cm, AC = 6 cm and angle BAC = 110°. Work out the length of BC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
