- 1.A chocolate bar is a prism. Its cross-section is a triangle with a base of 6 cm and a perpendicular height of 5 cm, and the bar is 12 cm long. Work out the volume of the bar.
- 2.A sector of a circle has radius 8 cm and takes up three-quarters of the full circle. Work out the perimeter of the sector, in terms of π.
- 3.A triangle has one unknown side or angle, marked x. In which one of these situations should the sine rule, rather than the cosine rule, be used to find x?
- 4.Triangle PQR has vertices P(0, 0), Q(6, 0) and R(0, 8). Work out the perimeter of the triangle.
- 5.A parallelogram has an area of 136 cm² and a base of 17 cm. Work out the perpendicular height of the parallelogram.
- 6.From an external point P, two tangents PA and PB touch a circle with centre O at points A and B. Angle APB = 44°. C is a point on the major arc AB. Using the fact that PA = PB, and the alternate segment theorem, work out the size of angle ACB.
- 7.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° and an area of 78.5 cm². Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 8.In a kite, one pair of opposite angles are equal in size. In kite WXYZ, angle X = 40° and angle Z = 100° are the two angles that are NOT equal to each other. The other two angles, W and Y, are equal to each other. Work out the size of angle W.
- 9.After a translation by the vector , a point lands on (4, 1). Write down the coordinates of the point before the translation.
- 10.p is the column vector with top number 2 and bottom number 3. q is the column vector with top number −1 and bottom number 4. Work out 2p + q, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 11.A triangular flag has a base of 40 cm and a perpendicular height of 25 cm. Work out its area.
- 12.Triangle A has vertices (2, 1), (5, 1) and (2, 4). It is translated by the vector (−3, 2) and the image is then reflected in the x-axis. Work out the coordinates of the image of (5, 1).
- 13.Work out the exact value of cos 0° − sin 30°.
- 14.A builder lays a low wall made from identical bricks. The diagram shows the plan of the wall's footprint on a grid, where each square is one brick. The wall is built up to a height of 4 bricks everywhere. Work out the total number of bricks used.
- 15.A transversal crosses a pair of parallel lines. At one line, the angle is (5x + 4)°. The corresponding angle at the other line is (3x + 24)°. Work out the value of x.
