- 1.A gardener wants to buy edging trim to go all the way around a circular flower bed with a diameter of 8 m. Work out the length of edging trim needed, using π = 3.14. Give your answer to the nearest metre.
- 2.A triangular sail for a small boat has a base of 2.4 m and a height of 1.75 m. Sailcloth costs £12.50 per m². Work out the total cost of the sailcloth needed for the sail.
- 3.A window is made from a rectangle with a semicircle on top. The rectangle is 40 cm wide and 60 cm tall. The semicircle has the same width as the rectangle. Work out the total area of the window. Use π = 3.14. Give your answer to the nearest whole number.
- 4.A shop stacks identical storage crates in a display. The diagram shows the plan of the floor positions used, with one corner position marked. Every floor position is filled with crates stacked 3 high, except the marked corner position, which is left completely empty. Work out how many crates are used in total.
- 5.Triangle ABC has AB = 9 cm, BC = 6 cm and angle A = 35°. Triangle DEF has DE = 9 cm, EF = 6 cm and angle D = 35°. Which of the following correctly identifies the condition shown here?
- 6.A regular octagonal tabletop has centre O. Each vertex is 30 cm from O. Work out the area of the tabletop. Give your answer to the nearest square centimetre.
- 7.A garden shed is shaped like a triangular prism: two identical vertical triangular end walls (the gable ends), joined by a sloping rectangular roof and a vertical rectangular back wall. Looking at the shed from directly above (the plan view), what shape is seen?
- 8.In triangle ABC, AB = 9 cm, AC = 6 cm, and angle BAC = 65°. Work out the length of BC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 9.PT is a tangent to a circle with centre O, touching the circle at T. OT is a radius. Angle OPT = 27°, where P is a point outside the circle. Work out the size of angle POT.
- 10.A carpenter measures two triangular braces. Brace 1 has a 55° angle, a 65° angle, and, opposite the 55° angle, a side of 8 cm. Brace 2 has matching 55° and 65° angles and, opposite its 55° angle, a side of 8 cm. The carpenter says that because the equal 8 cm side is not between the two equal angles in either brace, he cannot be sure the two braces are the same size. Is the carpenter correct?
- 11.A sector of a circle has radius 9 cm and angle 40°. Work out the area of the sector, in terms of π.
- 12.A designer creates a repeating tile pattern. Each tile is translated from the one before it by the column vector with top number 4.5 and bottom number −2.5 (in centimetres). The first tile has its bottom-left corner at (1.5, 3). Work out the coordinates of the bottom-left corner of the third tile.
- 13.Two spheres are similar solids. Their radii are in the ratio 3 : 4. Write down the ratio of their surface areas.
- 14.A rhombus has all four sides equal in length. Which statement about a rhombus is correct?
- 15.A pinhole camera is set up at a pitch-side stand, with its aperture at the point O = (2, 1) on a grid. Light from the corner F of a triangular flag, at the point (4, 2), passes through the aperture and forms an inverted image on the film behind it. The projection is an enlargement of scale factor −1.5 centred at O. Work out the coordinates of the image of corner F.
