- 1.A rhombus has all four sides equal in length. Which statement about a rhombus is correct?
- 2.In triangle OAB, OA = a and OB = b. P lies on AB such that AP is twice PB. Express the vector OP in terms of a and b.
- 3.Two similar model cars have a length scale factor of 2 from the small model to the large model. Priya works out that the area scale factor is 2² = 4, and then says the volume scale factor must also be 4, since that is the number she just calculated. Is Priya correct?
- 4.A drinks company sells a novelty giant bottle that is geometrically similar to its standard 500 ml bottle, scaled up by a length factor of 1.5. Work out the capacity of the giant bottle, in ml.
- 5.Two similar triangular tiles have lengths in the ratio 3 : 5. The longest side of the smaller tile is 9 cm. Work out the length of the longest side of the larger tile.
- 6.A circle has centre O and radius 13 cm. AB is a chord of the circle, and M is the midpoint of AB. OM is drawn, and OM = 5 cm. Work out the length of AB.
- 7.A cylindrical drum and a cuboid box are being wrapped for a display. A shop assistant wraps only the flat faces of each item, not any curved surface. How many flat faces in total does the assistant wrap across both items?
- 8.Triangle ABC has a right angle at B and hypotenuse AC = 17 cm, with AB = 8 cm. Triangle DEF has a right angle at E and hypotenuse DF = 17 cm. Which extra fact about DEF would complete the RHS condition for proving that ABC ≅ DEF, with the vertices matching in that order?
- 9.A designer enlarges a drawing of a model car for a poster. She first enlarges the drawing by a scale factor of 1.5, and then enlarges that result by a further scale factor of 2. On the original drawing, the position of a wheel relative to the front bumper is given by the column vector with top number 4 and bottom number −3, in centimetres. What is the corresponding column vector on the poster, in centimetres?
- 10.A quadrilateral has vertices A(1, 1), B(5, 1), C(6, 4) and D(2, 4). By comparing the y-coordinates of A, B and of D, C, write down whether the sides AB and DC are parallel, and give a reason for your answer.
- 11.Triangle ABC is right-angled at B. Triangle DEF is right-angled at E. AB = DE = 6 cm and AC = DF = 10 cm (AC and DF are the hypotenuses of their triangles). A student says this is not enough information to prove the triangles are congruent, because only two sides are given. Which reason shows the student is wrong?
- 12.A triangle has vertices A(0, 0), B(10, 0) and C(5, 12). Work out the area of the triangle.
- 13.A sprinkler waters a sector-shaped patch of a garden with radius 8 m and angle 90°. Work out the perimeter of the watered sector, to 1 decimal place. (Use π = 3.14.)
- 14.A chord divides a circle into two segments of different sizes. Write down the name given to the smaller of the two segments.
- 15.A regular hexagon has sides of length 8 cm. By splitting the hexagon into 6 identical triangles that meet at its centre, work out the area of the hexagon. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
