- 1.A straight line touches the edge of a circle at exactly one point and does not cross into the circle at all. Write down the term for this line.
- 2.A square-based pyramid has a square base whose diagonal is 14 cm, and each slant edge of the pyramid, from a base vertex to the apex, is 15 cm. Work out the height of the pyramid. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 3.In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 90° and angle BAC = 30°. The hypotenuse AC = 12 cm. Work out the exact length of AB.
- 4.A quadrilateral has two pairs of parallel sides. All four of its interior angles are right angles, but its sides are not all the same length. Which quadrilateral is this?
- 5.A circle has centre O and radius 10 cm. Points A and B lie on the circle such that angle AOB = 130°. Work out the area of the minor segment cut off by the chord AB. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 6.A sector of a circle has radius 6 cm and an area of 4.71 cm². Using π = 3.14, work out the angle of the sector.
- 7.Point P(2, 5) is enlarged with centre (2, 1) to give image point P′(2, −7). Work out the scale factor of the enlargement.
- 8.A line joins the points A(0, 0, 0) and B(9, 12, 8) in a three-dimensional coordinate system in which the z-axis is vertical. Work out the angle this line makes with the horizontal (the xy-plane). Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 9.Two bronze statues are geometrically similar and made from the same solid bronze. Their heights are 30 cm and 45 cm. The smaller statue has a mass of 12 kg. Work out the mass of the larger statue, in kg.
- 10.A right-angled triangle has two sides of length 5 cm and 12 cm, and the angle between those two sides is 90°. Work out the length of the hypotenuse.
- 11.To construct the perpendicular from a point P to a line l, where P is a point above l, an arc centred at P is drawn to cross l at two points, X and Y. What is the correct next step?
- 12.Square B has vertices (1, 1), (4, 1), (4, 4) and (1, 4). It is rotated 90° clockwise about the origin, and the image is then translated by the vector (2, −1). Work out the coordinates of the image of (4, 1).
- 13.Work out the distance between the points (−3, 4) and (5, −2).
- 14.A trapezium has an area of 45 cm², a perpendicular height of 5 cm, and one parallel side of length 10 cm. Work out the length of the other parallel side.
- 15.Shape S is enlarged by a scale factor of 3, centre the origin. A vertex of S is at (2, 1). Work out the coordinates of the image of this vertex.
