- 1.Point P(2, 5) is enlarged with centre (2, 1) to give image point P′(2, −7). Work out the scale factor of the enlargement.
- 2.A mast stands vertically on level ground and its top is 60 m above the ground. Amelia and Noah stand on the ground on the same side of the mast, in line with its foot. The angle of elevation of the top of the mast is 30° from where Amelia stands and 60° from where Noah stands. Work out the distance between Amelia and Noah. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 3.A regular hexagon is divided into six identical triangles by joining its centre to each of the six vertices. Work out the size of the angle of one of these triangles at the centre of the hexagon.
- 4.Two spheres are similar solids. Their radii are in the ratio 3 : 4. Write down the ratio of their surface areas.
- 5.Two similar signs have lengths in the ratio 9 : 4. The larger sign has a side of length 14.4 cm. Work out the length of the corresponding side of the smaller sign.
- 6.Triangle DEF is isosceles, with DE = DF. Angle E = 58°. Give a reason why angle F = 58°.
- 7.A parallelogram has an area of 84 cm² and a base of 12 cm. Work out the perpendicular height of the parallelogram.
- 8.Triangle ABC is right-angled at B. Triangle DEF is right-angled at E. AB = DE = 6 cm and AC = DF = 10 cm (AC and DF are the hypotenuses of their triangles). A student says this is not enough information to prove the triangles are congruent, because only two sides are given. Which reason shows the student is wrong?
- 9.The vector describes a translation. A student writes it as by mistake. Write down what error the student has made.
- 10.A circle has two straight radii drawn from the centre to the edge, together with the arc between them. Write down the name of the region enclosed by these two radii and the arc.
- 11.The diagram shows the plan view and the front elevation of a cuboid-shaped box, each drawn as a rectangle. Work out the area of the box's side elevation, in square centimetres.
- 12.Triangle ABC is drawn. The interior angle bisectors from vertices A and B are constructed and meet at point I inside the triangle. Which statement about point I must be true?
- 13.A pinhole camera is set up at a pitch-side stand, with its aperture at the point O = (2, 1) on a grid. Light from the corner F of a triangular flag, at the point (4, 2), passes through the aperture and forms an inverted image on the film behind it. The projection is an enlargement of scale factor −1.5 centred at O. Work out the coordinates of the image of corner F.
- 14.Work out the exact value of tan 30° + tan 30°.
- 15.Point Q has coordinates (3, 5). It is translated by the vector (1, −2), and the image is then enlarged by scale factor 3, centre the origin. Work out the coordinates of the final image of Q.
