- 1.A shape is translated by the vector (5, −3), and the image is then translated by the vector (−5, 3). Which single transformation has the same overall effect as this combination, for every point?
- 2.A triangular sail for a small boat has a base of 2.4 m and a height of 1.75 m. Sailcloth costs £12.50 per m². Work out the total cost of the sailcloth needed for the sail.
- 3.A shape is reflected in the line x = 1, and the image is then reflected in the line x = 5. Which single transformation is equivalent to this combination, for every point?
- 4.A shape is translated by the vector and then by the vector . Write down the single column vector that has the same effect as those two translations together.
- 5.The bearing of a campsite B from a walker's position A is 070°. What is the bearing of A from B?
- 6.A warehouse stores identical cube-shaped crates. Its plan view is a 2 by 4 rectangle of crate positions, and every position is filled to a height of 3 crates, except one corner position, which has only 2 crates stacked on it because a delivery was incomplete. How many crates are there in total?
- 7.A pinhole camera is set up at a pitch-side stand, with its aperture at the point O = (2, 1) on a grid. Light from the corner F of a triangular flag, at the point (4, 2), passes through the aperture and forms an inverted image on the film behind it. The projection is an enlargement of scale factor −1.5 centred at O. Work out the coordinates of the image of corner F.
- 8.Triangle DEF is isosceles, with DE = DF. Angle E = 58°. Give a reason why angle F = 58°.
- 9.Two sides of a triangle are 9 cm and 15 cm long. Write down which one of these lengths is possible for the third side.
- 10.A shopkeeper builds a display from two cuboid boxes, shown in the diagram. She wants to cover the front of the display with coloured paper. Work out the total area of the front elevation, in square centimetres.
- 11.Triangle PQR has vertices P(0, 0), Q(6, 0) and R(0, 8). Work out the perimeter of the triangle.
- 12.In one circle, chord PQ is 6 cm long, chord RS is 10 cm long, chord TU is 14 cm long and chord VW is 15 cm long. Write down which of these chords lies closest to the centre of the circle.
- 13.e is the column vector with top number 5 and bottom number k. f is the column vector with top number 15 and bottom number 6. Given that f is 3 times e, work out the value of k.
- 14.A tent frame forms a triangle ABC, where AB = 3.5 m is a sloping pole, BC = 2.8 m is the base and AC = 4.2 m is the guy rope. Work out the size of angle ABC, between the pole and the base. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 15.In triangle ABC and triangle DEF, AB = DE, AC = DF, and the angle at A equals the angle at D. Write down the congruence condition that proves the two triangles are congruent.
