- 1.In triangle OAB, OA = a and OB = b. P is the point on OA such that OP = (1/3)a, and Q is the point on OB such that OQ = (1/3)b. Express the vector PQ in terms of a and b.
- 2.Triangle A has vertices (2, 1), (5, 1) and (2, 4). It is translated by the vector (−3, 2) and the image is then reflected in the x-axis. Work out the coordinates of the image of (5, 1).
- 3.A rotation of 180° about the point (3, 2) can be written as a reflection in the line x = 3, followed by a reflection in a second line, for every point in the plane. Which line is the second line?
- 4.Triangle ABC is similar to triangle PQR. AB corresponds to PQ, and BC corresponds to QR. AB = 5 cm, PQ = 15 cm and BC = 7 cm. Work out the length of QR.
- 5.The perimeter of a square is 20 cm. Work out the area of the square.
- 6.Two similar triangular flower beds have lengths in the ratio 3 : 7. The area of the smaller bed is 45 m². Work out the area of the larger bed.
- 7.To construct the perpendicular from a point P to a line l, where P is a point above l, an arc centred at P is drawn to cross l at two points, X and Y. What is the correct next step?
- 8.A line passes through the points (1, 2) and (3, 6). The line is reflected in the x-axis, and the image is then translated by the vector (2, 0). Work out the gradient of the image line after both transformations.
- 9.A cylindrical drum and a cuboid box are being wrapped for a display. A shop assistant wraps only the flat faces of each item, not any curved surface. How many flat faces in total does the assistant wrap across both items?
- 10.A photograph is 10 cm wide and 15 cm tall. It is enlarged to make a similar poster that is 40 cm wide. The poster costs £0.80 per centimetre of its height to print, based on its full height. Work out the cost of printing the poster.
- 11.A triangular plot of land has sides AB = 13 m and AC = 10 m, with angle BAC = 72° between them. Work out the perimeter of the plot. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 12.Triangle ABC has AB = 8 cm, BC = 10 cm and CA = 6 cm. Triangle LMN has LM = 10 cm, MN = 6 cm and NL = 8 cm. The two triangles are congruent by SSS. Which of the following correctly matches the corresponding vertices?
- 13.A is the point (1, 3) and B is the point (7, 3). Work out the coordinates of the midpoint of AB.
- 14.A cuboid has a rectangular base measuring 6 cm by 8 cm, and a height of 4 cm. Work out the angle between the diagonal from a base corner to the opposite top corner, and the base of the cuboid. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 15.A tank holds 3.2 m³ of water. Work out this volume in litres.
