- 1.To construct the perpendicular from a point P to a line l, where P is a point above l, an arc centred at P is drawn to cross l at two points, X and Y. What is the correct next step?
- 2.Work out the exact value of (cos 45°)² + (sin 45°)².
- 3.A roof truss is shaped like an isosceles triangle resting on a horizontal ceiling joist. The truss's sloping edges are equal in length, and the angle at its apex is 40°. The ceiling joist continues in a straight line beyond the foot of the truss. Work out the angle between the truss's sloping edge and the extended joist, on the outside of the truss.
- 4.A straight line crosses two parallel lines. One of the angles formed is (2x + 10)°, and the angle alternate to it is 74°. Work out the value of x.
- 5.Square B has vertices (1, 1), (4, 1), (4, 4) and (1, 4). It is rotated 90° clockwise about the origin, and the image is then translated by the vector (2, −1). Work out the coordinates of the image of (4, 1).
- 6.A, B, C and D are points on a circle with centre O, placed in that order around the circle so that ABCD is a cyclic quadrilateral. B lies on the major arc AC and D lies on the minor arc AC. Angle AOC = 104°. Work out the size of angle ADC.
- 7.A regular octagonal tabletop has centre O. Each vertex is 30 cm from O. Work out the area of the tabletop. Give your answer to the nearest square centimetre.
- 8.Triangle ABC has a right angle at B, hypotenuse AC = 13 cm and AB = 5 cm. Triangle DEF has a right angle at E, hypotenuse DF = 13 cm and DE = 5 cm. Which condition proves the two triangles are congruent?
- 9.Two circles are drawn with the same centre but different radii. Write down the term used to describe this pair of circles.
- 10.A sector of a circle has radius 15 cm and angle 216°. Using π = 3.14, work out the arc length of the sector.
- 11.O is the centre of a circle, and PT is a tangent to the circle at the point T. A is a point on the circle, with OA and OT both radii and angle AOT = 122°. At the point T, the chord TA lies between the radius TO and the tangent TP. Work out the size of angle ATP, the angle between the chord and the tangent.
- 12.In triangle PQR, PQ = 11 cm, QR = 7 cm and PR = 13 cm. Work out the size of angle PQR. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 13.Shape S has an area of 5 cm². Shape S is enlarged by a scale factor of −3 to give shape T. Work out the area of shape T.
- 14.A sector of a circle has radius 8 cm and takes up three-quarters of the full circle. Work out the perimeter of the sector, in terms of π.
- 15.Two straight paths cross at a junction in a park. One of the angles between them, measured with a protractor, is 76°. What is the size of the angle immediately next to it on a straight line?
