- 1.Point P has coordinates (4, 2). P is rotated 90° clockwise about the point (1, 1), and the image is then reflected in the line x = 1. Work out the coordinates of the final image of P.
- 2.A shape is translated by the vector and then by the vector . Write down the single column vector that has the same effect as those two translations together.
- 3.A footpath is 3750 m long. Work out this distance in kilometres.
- 4.A solid cylinder is lying on its curved side on a table, with its circular ends facing left and right. What shape is its plan view, looking down from above?
- 5.Shape S has a vertex at (9, 6). It is enlarged by a scale factor of 1/3, centre the origin. Work out the coordinates of the image of this vertex.
- 6.A garden shed is shaped like a triangular prism: two identical vertical triangular end walls (the gable ends), joined by a sloping rectangular roof and a vertical rectangular back wall. Looking at the shed from directly above (the plan view), what shape is seen?
- 7.A chocolate bar is a prism. Its cross-section is a triangle with a base of 6 cm and a perpendicular height of 5 cm, and the bar is 12 cm long. Work out the volume of the bar.
- 8.OAB is a triangle, with OA = a and OB = b. E lies on OA produced beyond A, such that A is the midpoint of OE. F lies on AB such that FB is twice AF. G is the midpoint of OB. By finding the vectors EF and EG, show that E, F and G are collinear, and give the scalar k such that EF = k × EG.
- 9.At a cycling event, a circular track has centre O. Two flags, F and M, are fixed on the track. A course marker P is also on the track, positioned so that angle FOP = 55° and angle POM = 43°, with P between F and M as seen from O. A spectator S stands on the major arc FM, on the opposite side of the track from P. The event programme needs angle FSM. Work out angle FSM.
- 10.Triangle ABC is translated by the column vector with top number 3 and bottom number −5 to form triangle A′B′C′. Triangle A′B′C′ is then translated by the column vector with top number −7 and bottom number 2 to form triangle A″B″C″. Work out the single column vector that translates triangle ABC directly to triangle A″B″C″.
- 11.In cyclic quadrilateral ABCD, with vertices in that order around the circle, the diagonal BD is drawn. In triangle ABD, angle ABD = 35° and angle ADB = 65°. Side DC is extended beyond C to a point E. Work out the size of angle BCE.
- 12.Each of these has an exact value. Write down the one whose value is the greatest.
- 13.The diagram shows a cuboid. Work out the area of its front elevation, in square centimetres.
- 14.A scale drawing of a rectangular lawn uses a scale of 1 : 125. On the drawing, the lawn measures 4 cm by 2.4 cm. Work out the perimeter of the real lawn, in metres.
- 15.Every diameter of a circle is an example of a more general type of straight line joining two points on the circle. Which term names that more general type of line?
