- 1.Triangle PQR has vertices P(0, 0), Q(9, 0) and R(0, 4). Work out the area of triangle PQR.
- 2.A room measures 4.2 m by 3.6 m. A flooring company needs the area in cm² to order the right amount of vinyl flooring. Work out the area of the room in cm².
- 3.Shape S is enlarged by a scale factor of 3, centre the origin. A vertex of S is at (2, 1). Work out the coordinates of the image of this vertex.
- 4.An enlargement has a scale factor of −2. Priti says the image must be a mirror image of the original shape. Is Priti correct?
- 5.A scale drawing of a rectangular lawn uses a scale of 1 : 125. On the drawing, the lawn measures 4 cm by 2.4 cm. Work out the perimeter of the real lawn, in metres.
- 6.A gardener wants to plant a tree so that it is the same distance from two straight garden walls that meet at a corner, and also the same distance from two ornamental posts standing 4 m apart. Which construction locates this point?
- 7.A straight fence is 5 m long. Describe the shape of the region made up of every point on the ground within 2 m of any part of the fence.
- 8.In triangle ABC and triangle DEF, the angle at A and the angle at D are both 40°, and the angle at B and the angle at E are both 70°. No side lengths are given. Write down whether the two triangles must be similar, with the reason.
- 9.A point is translated twice by the vector . Write down the single column vector that describes the overall translation.
- 10.A square-based pyramid has a square base whose diagonal is 14 cm, and each slant edge of the pyramid, from a base vertex to the apex, is 15 cm. Work out the height of the pyramid. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 11.The bearing of a campsite B from a walker's position A is 070°. What is the bearing of A from B?
- 12.Two coastguard stations A and B are 18 km apart, with B due east of A. A boat at C is on a bearing of 062° from A and on a bearing of 315° from B. Work out the distance of the boat from station B. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 13.A, B and C are points on a circle with centre O. B is on the major arc AC. Angle AOC = 116°. Work out the size of angle ABC.
- 14.Rectangle ABCD has vertices A(−1, 2), B(4, 2), C(4, 5) and D(−1, 5). The rectangle is translated so that C moves to (0, −1). Write down the coordinates of the image of A.
- 15.A trapezium has an area of 45 cm², a perpendicular height of 5 cm, and one parallel side of length 10 cm. Work out the length of the other parallel side.
