- 1.A pinhole camera is set up at a pitch-side stand, with its aperture at the point O = (2, 1) on a grid. Light from the corner F of a triangular flag, at the point (4, 2), passes through the aperture and forms an inverted image on the film behind it. The projection is an enlargement of scale factor −1.5 centred at O. Work out the coordinates of the image of corner F.
- 2.Triangle J is mapped onto triangle K by a single transformation with centre O. Triangle K is half the size of triangle J and is inverted (turned through 180°). Which of these transformations maps J onto K?
- 3.PT is a tangent to a circle with centre O, touching the circle at T. C is a point on the circle such that C lies inside angle OTP (the right angle between the radius OT and the tangent PT), and OC is a radius. Angle TOC = 130°. Work out the size of angle PTC, the angle between the tangent PT and the chord TC.
- 4.Triangles PQS and RQS share the common side QS. PQ equals RQ, and PS equals RS. Which condition proves that triangle PQS is congruent to triangle RQS?
- 5.A dog is tied by a lead 4 m long to a fixed ring on a straight garden wall. The wall extends much further than the lead can reach in both directions, and the dog cannot cross through it. Describe the region the dog can reach.
- 6.A kite string makes an angle of 30° with the ground. The kite is flying at a height of 6 m directly above a point on the ground. Using the exact value of sin 30°, work out the exact length of the kite string.
- 7.A sprinkler waters a sector-shaped patch of a garden with radius 8 m and angle 90°. Work out the perimeter of the watered sector, to 1 decimal place. (Use π = 3.14.)
- 8.ABCD is a cyclic quadrilateral, with its vertices in that order around the circle. Angle DAB = 108°. Work out the size of angle BCD.
- 9.Work out the exact value of tan 30° + tan 30°.
- 10.In triangle ABC, AB = 9 cm, angle BAC = 50° and the area of the triangle is 36 cm². Work out the length of AC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 11.A support strut for a shed roof is in the shape of a right-angled triangle. The two shorter sides of the strut are 5 m and 9 m. Work out the length of the sloping strut (the hypotenuse). Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 12.u is the column vector with top number 5 and bottom number 1. v is the column vector with top number 2 and bottom number 4. Work out u − v, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 13.A circular pizza base has a radius of 12 cm. Work out the area of the pizza base. Use π = 3.14.
- 14.Point A and point B are 5 cm apart. How many points are exactly 4 cm from A and exactly 3 cm from B?
- 15.A garden plan is drawn to a scale of 1 cm : 1.8 m. A path on the plan measures 4.5 cm. What is the real length of the path, in metres, to 1 decimal place?
