- 1.O is the centre of a circle, and PT is a tangent to the circle at the point T. A is a point on the circle, with OA and OT both radii and angle AOT = 122°. At the point T, the chord TA lies between the radius TO and the tangent TP. Work out the size of angle ATP, the angle between the chord and the tangent.
- 2.A map has a scale of 1 : 20 000. The distance between two villages is 3.4 km in real life. How long is this distance on the map, in centimetres?
- 3.In quadrilateral ABCD the two sides AB and BC are each 6 cm long and meet each other at B. The two sides CD and DA are each 9 cm long and meet each other at D. No side of ABCD is parallel to any other side. Write down the mathematical name of this quadrilateral.
- 4.A hiker walks on a bearing of 065°. She then turns clockwise through 90° and continues walking in a straight line. What bearing is she now walking on?
- 5.In triangle ABC the angle at A and the angle at C are equal. The side AB is extended beyond B, and the exterior angle formed at B measures 98°. Work out the size of the angle at A.
- 6.A hexagonal prism lies on a table. A flat cut is made straight across it, at right angles to its length (so the cut is parallel to the two identical end faces). What shape is the cross-section?
- 7.A, B and C are points on a circle with centre O. B is on the major arc AC. Angle AOC = 116°. Work out the size of angle ABC.
- 8.To construct the perpendicular from a point P to a line l, where P is a point above l, an arc centred at P is drawn to cross l at two points, X and Y. What is the correct next step?
- 9.A triangle has vertices A(1, 1), B(5, 1) and C(5, 4). Work out the lengths of AB, BC and CA, and write down whether triangle ABC is right-angled.
- 10.A circular tabletop has a radius of 15 cm. Work out the area of the tabletop. Use π = 3.14. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 11.A circular decoration has a radius of 10 cm. A ribbon costs £0.50 per centimetre and is fixed along the curved edge (the arc) of a sector-shaped section with an angle of 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the cost of the ribbon for this section.
- 12.A cylinder has a radius of 3 cm and a height of 10 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the volume of the cylinder.
- 13.A party hat is in the shape of a cone with a base radius of 6 cm and a slant height of 10 cm. Work out the curved surface area of the party hat. Use π = 3.14 and the formula curved surface area = πrl.
- 14.A map has a scale of 1 : 25000. A distance between two points measures 2 cm on the map. What is the real distance, in kilometres?
- 15.Triangle XYZ has angle X = 90°. Angle Y = 34°. Work out angle Z.
