- 1.Work out the value of (1/3)⁻²
- 2.Write 5/6 as a decimal, showing clearly which digit recurs.

- 10.The length of a pencil is 8.4 cm, correct to 1 decimal place. Using L for the length of the pencil in centimetres, write down the error interval for L.
- 11.A van has a mass of 2,000 kg, correct to 1 significant figure. Using m for the mass of the van in kilograms, write down the error interval for m.
- 12.Without using a calculator, estimate √20 × √12, giving your answer to the nearest whole number.
- 13.A cyclist rides at a steady speed of 8 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 14.Simplify (y³)⁴, giving your answer as a single power of y.
- 15.A rectangular tile measures 45 cm by 0.6 m. Work out its area, in square centimetres.
