- 1.Work out the reciprocal of (2 + 3)
- 2.Work out (−2)² − 3
- 3.By listing systematically, work out how many two-digit multiples of 5 can be made using the digits 0, 3 and 5, if each digit can be used at most once and the number cannot start with 0.
- 4.In a class, 1/3 of the pupils are girls. There are 12 girls in the class. Work out how many pupils are in the class.
- 5.A bag holds 5 different sweets. Noah takes 2 of the sweets out of the bag together, so the order in which he takes them does not matter. Work out how many different pairs of sweets he could take.
- 6.Work out 6² − 4².
- 7.Work out an estimate for 2.9² + 3.1², by rounding each number to the nearest whole number.
- 8.A shortbread recipe uses flour and butter in the ratio 5 : 2. Yuki changes the recipe by doubling the amount of butter but keeping the amount of flour the same. Work out the fraction of the new mixture that is butter.
- 9.A sponsored walk is 36 km long. Aisha has completed 8/12 of the walk. Work out how far she has walked.
- 10.A rectangular field measures 19.6 m by 48.3 m. Work out an estimate for the area of the field, by rounding each length to 1 significant figure.
- 11.Priya has 24 red beads and 36 blue beads. She makes identical bracelets, using every bead and with none left over. Work out the greatest number of bracelets she can make.
- 12.A student works out the exact area of a circle with radius 4 cm by squaring the radius but forgetting to multiply by π. Work out the correct exact area of the circle, in terms of π.
- 13.A water tank holds 80 litres when full. It currently contains 60 litres. Work out what fraction of the tank is empty.
- 14.Work out (3 × 10²) × (2 × 10⁵). Give your answer in standard form.
- 15.Write 200 as a product of its prime factors, using index notation.
