- 1.Three-digit numbers are made using the digits 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9. No digit may be used twice in the same number. Work out how many of these three-digit numbers are odd.
- 2.A café orders 340 bread rolls at 24p each and 85 cakes at £1.35 each. Work out the total cost of the order.
- 3.The number 24 can be written as 2³ × 3, and the number 60 can be written as 2² × 3 × 5. Work out the lowest common multiple of 24 and 60.
- 4.The number 72 can be written as 2³ × 3², and the number 108 can be written as 2² × 3³. Work out the highest common factor of 72 and 108.
- 5.Ten players enter a chess tournament. Every player plays every other player exactly once. Work out how many games are played in the tournament.
- 6.A student writes 0.08 as the fraction 8/10, reading the 8 as if it stood in the tenths column and ignoring the zero. Work out the correct fraction that 0.08 is equal to, giving your answer in its simplest form.
- 7.Meera says that 0.7 ÷ 0.1 = 0.07. Work out the correct value of 0.7 ÷ 0.1.
- 8.The distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,000 km. Write this distance in standard form, in kilometres.
- 9.Simplify x⁷ × x⁴, giving your answer as a single power of x.
- 10.c = 50, correct to the nearest 10. d = 18, correct to the nearest whole number. Work out the upper bound of c − d.
- 11.Write these numbers in order, starting with the largest: 7/8, 0.8, 78%, 17/20
- 12.Which of these statements about −0.7 and −0.25 is true?
- 13.A gardener has 42 tulip bulbs and 56 daffodil bulbs. She plants them in rows, with every row containing the same number of tulip bulbs and the same number of daffodil bulbs, and no bulbs left over. Work out the greatest number of rows she can plant.
- 14.To estimate the cost of buying 38.7 m of rope at £21.40 per metre, both numbers are first rounded to 1 significant figure. Work out the estimate.
- 15.Simplify √8 + √18, giving your answer in the form k√2.
