- 1.Put these numbers in order, starting with the smallest: 3.2 × 10⁴, 2.9 × 10⁵, 4.1 × 10³
- 2.Three-digit numbers are made using the digits 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9. No digit may be used twice in the same number. Work out how many of these three-digit numbers are odd.

- 4.A board game has 5 different character pieces and 4 different colour tokens. The dragon piece can only be used with the gold token. Work out how many different combinations of one character piece and one colour token are possible.
- 5.Without using a calculator, estimate the value of √70 × ∛65, giving your answer to 1 significant figure.
- 6.Work out (−2)³ + (−3)² − (−4)
- 7.A cyclist travels 40 km, correct to the nearest 10 km, in a time of 3 hours, correct to the nearest hour. Work out the maximum possible average speed, in km/h.
- 8.Priya adds 3.6 and 0.45 on paper and writes down 3.65 as her answer. Work out the correct value of 3.6 + 0.45.
- 9.Expand and simplify √3(2 + √12).
- 10.A train journey takes 45 minutes, correct to the nearest 5 minutes. Using t for the actual time of the journey in minutes, write down the error interval for t.
- 11.Work out 3/7 × 14/9. Give your answer as a fraction in its simplest form.
- 12.In a box of chocolates 5/8 are milk chocolates and the rest are dark chocolates. Work out the number of dark chocolates as a fraction of the number of milk chocolates.
- 13.Work out (−36) ÷ (−6) × 2
- 14.A jug holds 3 1/3 litres of juice. Each glass holds 2/3 of a litre. Work out how many glasses can be filled from the jug.
