- 1.A jacket normally costs £65. In a sale it is reduced by 20%, and the shop then takes a further £5 off at the till. Work out the final price.
- 2.A gardener has 42 tulip bulbs and 56 daffodil bulbs. She plants them in rows, with every row containing the same number of tulip bulbs and the same number of daffodil bulbs, and no bulbs left over. Work out the greatest number of rows she can plant.
- 3.Estimate the value of √45, giving your answer to the nearest whole number.
- 4.A gym increases its membership price by 1/5. The original price is £60. Work out the new price.
- 5.Work out (2/3)² + (1/2)². Give your answer as a fraction.
- 6.A supermarket sells apples at £1.85 per kg. Anna buys 3.6 kg of apples. Estimate the cost by rounding each number to 1 significant figure before multiplying. Work out Anna's estimate.
- 7.A jumper is reduced by 15% in a sale to a price of £42.50. Work out the original price.
- 8.A shop buys boxes of pens for £4 each. It sells each box on to a school for £3 more than it paid, and charges an extra £2 delivery fee for the whole order. A school orders 5 boxes. Work out the total cost of the order.
- 9.At a swimming pool the ratio of adults to children is 3 : 5. Of the children, 2/5 are boys. What fraction of the people at the pool are boys?

- 13.Work out 1 1/2 ÷ 3/4 exactly, giving your answer in its simplest form.
- 14.A courier's van has a weight limit of 850 kg for its parcels. The driver's display shows the total mass of the parcels loaded as 850 kg, correct to the nearest 5 kg. Decide whether the parcels are definitely within the weight limit.
- 15.A cheetah runs at a steady speed of 25 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
