- 1.Write down the exact decimal value of the fraction 1/6.
- 2.Ten players enter a chess tournament. Every player plays every other player exactly once. Work out how many games are played in the tournament.
- 3.A crowd of 8,400 people is recorded correct to the nearest 100. Work out the smallest possible number of people in the crowd.
- 4.A cheetah runs at a steady speed of 25 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.

- 7.A cube-shaped storage box has edges of length 7 cm. A shelf can hold a total volume of 2,000 cm³. Work out the greatest number of these boxes that will fit in that volume.
- 8.During one night on a mountain, four hikers each recorded the temperature they felt: Ben −6 °C, Priya −2 °C, Sam −9 °C, Alex 1 °C. Work out the difference between the coldest and the warmest of these four temperatures.
- 9.By considering fourth powers, work out which two consecutive integers ⁴√200 lies between.
- 10.A netball team has 8 players. Two of them are chosen to be captains, and the two captains have equal standing. Work out how many different pairs of captains could be chosen.
- 11.A triangle has a base of 8 cm and a perpendicular height of 5 cm, each correct to the nearest centimetre. Work out the upper bound of the area.
- 12.A number, n, is a multiple of both 6 and 9. Work out the smallest possible value of n that is greater than 20.
- 13.A number is multiplied by 4, then 8 is added, giving the result 40. Work out the number.
- 14.A rectangular garden has a length of 12.4 m and a width of 7.5 m, each measured correct to 1 decimal place. Calculate the upper bound for the area of the garden.
