- 1.A teacher records the number of pets owned by each of 25 pupils in a class; each pupil owns 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 pets. The teacher wants to show how many pupils own each number of pets. Write down the most suitable type of chart for this data, and give a reason for your answer.
- 2.The masses, m kg, of 60 parcels are grouped like this: 0 ≤ m < 5, 22 parcels; 5 ≤ m < 10, 20 parcels; 10 ≤ m < 20, 9 parcels; 20 ≤ m < 30, 5 parcels; 30 ≤ m < 50, 4 parcels. Write down the class interval that contains the median mass.
- 3.A histogram shows the times, t minutes, taken by 120 visitors to complete an escape room. The bar for 0 ≤ t < 10 has a frequency density of 5 visitors per minute, the bar for 10 ≤ t < 20 has a frequency density of 2 visitors per minute, the bar for 20 ≤ t < 40 has a frequency density of 1.5 visitors per minute, and the bar for 40 ≤ t < 60 has a frequency density of 1 visitor per minute. Work out which class contains the median time.
- 4.Marta is drawing a cumulative frequency diagram for the times, t seconds, of 100 telephone calls. The grouped frequencies are: 0 ≤ t < 10, 7 calls; 10 ≤ t < 20, 19 calls; 20 ≤ t < 30, 34 calls; 30 ≤ t < 40, 40 calls. Write down the coordinates of the point Marta should plot for the class 20 ≤ t < 30.
- 5.The times, t minutes, taken by 120 runners to finish a fun run are summarised by these cumulative frequencies: t < 20, 8 runners; t < 30, 26 runners; t < 40, 74 runners; t < 50, 110 runners; t < 60, 120 runners. Work out the number of runners who took 40 minutes or longer to finish.
- 6.Two classes sat the same maths test, both marked out of 100. Class A had a mean mark of 70 and a range of 30 marks. Class B had a mean mark of 70 and a range of 10 marks. Compare the marks of the two classes.
- 7.Two classes sat the same test. The 30 pupils in Class A had a mean mark of 72. The 20 pupils in Class B had a mean mark of 82. Work out the mean mark of all 50 pupils.
- 8.In a spelling test the 20 pupils in Group A had a mean mark of 80, and the 30 pupils in Group B had a mean mark of 70. Work out the mean mark of all 50 pupils.
- 9.The delivery times, in minutes, of 15 parcels are given in order: 5, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31, 34. Work out the interquartile range of these times.
- 10.A scatter graph shows the number of hours of sunshine, x, and the number of visitors, y, at an outdoor swimming pool in Torquay on each of 15 days. The line of best fit passes through the points (5, 150) and (15, 350). Work out the estimated number of visitors on a day with 8 hours of sunshine, using the line of best fit.
- 11.Four pairs of variables are listed below. Write down the pair that you would expect to show no correlation.
- 12.The mean of five test scores is 68. Four of the scores are 55, 62, 74 and 80. Work out the fifth score.

- 15.A factory made 3,000 phone cases last week. Shift A checked a random sample of 100 cases and found that 34 were scratched. Shift B checked a different random sample of 50 cases and found that 21 were scratched.
