- 1.Two-digit numbers are formed using the digits 2, 5, 7 and 8, and each digit may be used only once in a number. Work out how many of these two-digit numbers are even.
- 2.Write down the first four terms of the sequence with nth term 6n − 5.
- 3.3 builders put up a fence in 12 days. All the builders work at the same rate, so the number of days is inversely proportional to the number of builders. Work out how long 9 builders take to put up the same fence.
- 4.Rectangle ABCD has vertices A(−1, 2), B(4, 2), C(4, 5) and D(−1, 5). The rectangle is translated so that C moves to (0, −1). Write down the coordinates of the image of A.
- 5.An ordinary fair dice is rolled once. Set A is the set of even scores and set B is the set of scores greater than 4. Work out the probability that the score rolled is in set A or in set B or in both.
- 6.Ben and Chloe each sat five maths tests. Ben's marks were 62, 64, 65, 66 and 68. Chloe's marks were 40, 52, 65, 78 and 90. Both pupils have a mean mark of 65. Their teacher says the mean on its own does not describe the two sets of marks well. Give a reason why the teacher is right.
- 7.n is a whole number and 2 ≤ n < 6. Write down all the possible values of n.
- 8.Which expression is equivalent to 4(x − 2) + 10?
- 9.A car travels at a constant speed. It travels 150 miles in 3 hours. At the same speed, work out how far it travels in 5 hours.
- 10.Point B is at (3, 5). It is reflected in the line y = 2. Work out the coordinates of the image of point B.
- 11.The probability that Isla answers a quiz question correctly is 0.8. She answers three questions, and her answers are independent of each other. Work out the probability that she answers all three correctly.
- 12.Work out 3/8 of 96.
- 13.Which of these statements is an equation with exactly one solution?
- 14.Two hikers' journeys are shown on separate distance-time graphs. Hiker A's graph has gradient 4.5 km/h. Hiker B's graph has gradient 3.2 km/h. Work out how much faster Hiker A walks than Hiker B, in km/h.
- 15.A recipe uses 1.25 kg of flour. Work out how many grams of flour this is.
- 16.Work out 3 + 4 × (−2).
- 17.A statement contains an equals sign and one unknown letter, and it is only true for particular value(s) of that letter. What is this type of statement called?
- 18.A straight line passes through the points (1, 20) and (5, 8). Work out the gradient of the line.
- 19.Work out an estimate for 89 + 52, by rounding each number to the nearest 10.
- 20.A dog walker's charge, C pounds, for walking a dog for m minutes is shown on a straight-line graph. The line passes through the points (20, 14) and (50, 26). Work out the charge for a 65-minute walk.
How the 20 questions are shared out
- Number — 5 questions (25% of the qualification)
