- 2.Work out the value of 5m² + 3m when m = −2.4
- 3.In a fruit drink, 3/8 of the total volume is orange juice and the rest is apple juice. Write down the ratio of orange juice to apple juice, in its simplest form.
- 4.A circle has diameter 10 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the circumference of the circle.
- 5.A bag contains 5 yellow marbles and 3 blue marbles. Noah takes a marble at random, notes its colour and puts it back in the bag. He then takes a second marble at random. Work out the probability that the first marble is yellow and the second marble is blue.
- 6.A garden centre records the heights, in cm, of eleven seedlings. In order, the heights are 5, 9, x, 17, 20, 24, 28, 31, 35, 40, 44, where x is unknown. The interquartile range of the eleven heights is 19 cm. Work out the value of x.
- 7.Hannah works out 3.1 × 19.6 on her calculator and writes down 6.076. Work out an estimate for 3.1 × 19.6, by rounding each number to 1 significant figure.
- 8.An arithmetic sequence has first term 40 and common difference −6. Work out the 9th term of the sequence.
- 9.The time taken for a train journey is inversely proportional to the average speed of the train. At an average speed of 60 km/h the journey takes 2 hours. Work out the time taken at an average speed of 40 km/h.
- 10.A rectangular notice board measures 150 cm by 80 cm. Work out its area in m².
- 11.In a class experiment a fair six-sided dice is rolled 60 times and lands on a six 14 times. The whole school then rolls the same fair dice 3000 times. Work out the best estimate of the number of sixes the school should expect.
- 12.At a swimming pool the ratio of adults to children is 3 : 5. Of the children, 2/5 are boys. What fraction of the people at the pool are boys?

Using only the facts given, and without working out any further lengths, write down the congruence condition that proves triangle JKL is congruent to triangle MNO.
- 16.The equation x² − 5x − 2 = 0 can be solved using the iterative formula xₙ₊₁ = √(5xₙ + 2). The starting value is x₀ = 2, so x₁ is the value after the formula has been used once. Work out x₃ correct to 3 decimal places.
