- 1.A straight line has gradient −3 and passes through the point (0, 1). Work out the value of y when x = 2.
- 2.A sequence has nth term 3n + 4. Two terms are missing from the list of its first five terms: 7, 10, _, 16, _. Work out the missing 3rd and 5th terms added together.
- 3.Two expressions are 6(x − 1) and 6x − 6. A student says these are equivalent for every value of x. Is the student correct?
- 4.A market stall's cost of hiring n tables is modelled by two formulas: Formula A: C = 3(2n + 5); Formula B: C = 6n + 15, where C is in pounds. A stallholder says the two formulas always give the same cost. Work out the cost given by each formula when n = 4, and use your results to decide whether the stallholder is correct.
- 5.Make x the subject of the formula y = 3(x + 2).
- 6.Simplify 5a/6 − a/3
- 7.Solve the inequality 9 − 2x ≥ 1.
- 8.A photo printing service has two adverts for its price. Advert A: cost in pounds = 3(2n + 4) for n photos. Advert B: cost in pounds = 6n + 12. A customer says the two adverts always charge the same amount. Is the customer correct?
- 9.A number, w, satisfies the statement "three times w, minus 5, is at least 16". Which of these is the correct inequality for w?
- 10.Solve (3x + 2)/5 = (x + 4)/3
- 11.Solve the inequality 4x + 1 > 2x + 9.
- 12.The point B has coordinates (−2, −2). In which quadrant is B?
- 13.A straight line has gradient 3 and passes through the point (1, 4). Work out the equation of the line.
- 14.Write down the y-intercept of the line with equation y = 3x + 8.y = 3x + 8
