- 1.The first term of an arithmetic sequence is 5, and each term after that increases by 6. Work out the 8th term of the sequence.
- 2.Factorise fully 56x − 24
- 3.Solve 3x − 1 = 8
- 4.The graph of t = 240 ÷ s shows how the time, t hours, taken for a car journey of 240 miles depends on its average speed, s mph. Use the relationship to work out the time taken when the average speed is 48 mph.
- 5.A geometric sequence has first term 3 and common ratio 2. Work out the 5th term of the sequence.
- 6.The nth term of a sequence is 2n − 1. Work out the 6th term of the sequence.
- 7.The formula for the perimeter of a square is P = 4s, where s is the side length. Make s the subject of the formula.
- 8.Simplify 5a/6 − a/3
- 9.Which of these rules generates the sequence 6, 11, 16, 21, …?
- 10.A water tank empties according to y = −5x + 200, where y is the number of litres left after x minutes. Work out the coordinates of the point where this graph crosses the x-axis.y = -5x + 200
- 11.The graph of y = mx + 6 passes through the point (−2, 0). Work out the value of m.
- 12.A parcel delivery company's cost graph shows the following: the cost is a flat £5 for parcels weighing up to 2 kg, and then rises by £2 for each additional kg above 2 kg. Use the graph to work out the weight of a parcel that costs £17.
- 13.Point P has coordinates (2, −5). P is reflected in the x-axis to point Q. Write down the coordinates of Q.
- 14.To rearrange the formula y = 3x − 8 to make x the subject, Priya writes: 'Add 8 to both sides to get y + 8 = 3x, then divide both sides by 3 to get x = y + 8 ÷ 3.' Work out the correct expression for x.y = 3x − 8
- 15.A sequence has the position-to-term rule: the term is the square of the position number. Its first four terms are 1, 4, 9, 16. Work out the 10th term.
