- 1.A ship's radar can detect other ships up to 20 km away, over a sector-shaped area with angle 90°. A monitoring company charges £0.50 per square kilometre covered by one radar sweep. Using π = 3.14, work out the total charge for one sweep.
- 2.A cylindrical water tank has a solid hemispherical dome on top, both with radius 2 m. Work out the volume of the hemispherical dome alone. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 3 decimal places.
- 3.Two angles are complementary. One of them is 35°. Work out the size of the other angle.
- 4.The diagram shows the plan, front elevation and side elevation of a solid. Which of these solids matches all three views?
- 5.Triangle JKL and triangle MNP are similar, with JK ÷ MN = JL ÷ MP = 2. A student says triangle JKL must be congruent to triangle MNP. Write down why the student is wrong.
- 6.A sector of a circle has an angle of 150°. Work out what fraction of the circle's area the sector is.
- 7.The sum of the interior angles of a polygon is 1980°. Work out the number of sides of the polygon.
- 8.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° and an arc length of 15.7 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 9.A circular clock face has a diameter of 18 cm. Work out the circumference of the clock face. Use π = 3.14.
- 10.A water tank holds 2.5 m³. Work out this volume in cm³.
- 11.To construct a perpendicular to a line at a given point P on the line, compasses are first opened to draw two arcs crossing the line, one on each side of P. What is the correct next step?
- 12.Which of the following is NOT one of the four basic conditions used to prove two triangles are congruent?
- 13.In quadrilateral ABCD the two sides AB and BC are each 6 cm long and meet each other at B. The two sides CD and DA are each 9 cm long and meet each other at D. No side of ABCD is parallel to any other side. Write down the mathematical name of this quadrilateral.
- 14.A kite string makes an angle of 30° with the ground. The kite is flying at a height of 6 m directly above a point on the ground. Using the exact value of sin 30°, work out the exact length of the kite string.
