- 1.A plumber charges a call-out fee of £45 and then £28 for each hour she works. She is at a house from 09:15 until 12:45. Work out the total charge.
- 2.A tap fills a 20 litre bucket in 2 minutes 30 seconds. Work out the rate of flow, in litres per minute.
- 3.Work out an estimate for 2.9² + 3.1², by rounding each number to the nearest whole number.
- 4.n is a whole number and 2 ≤ n < 6. Write down all the possible values of n.
- 5.A spinner has 4 colours and a coin has 2 sides. Work out how many different outcomes are possible when the spinner is spun once and the coin is tossed once.
- 6.Work out 6² − 4².

- 8.A shortbread recipe uses flour and butter in the ratio 5 : 2. Yuki changes the recipe by doubling the amount of butter but keeping the amount of flour the same. Work out the fraction of the new mixture that is butter.

- 10.On a number line, point A is at −1. Point B is 4 units from point A. Write down the two possible positions of point B.
- 11.A roll of ribbon is 8.4 m long. Ribbon is cut into pieces that are each 0.6 m long. Work out how many complete pieces can be cut from the roll.
- 12.Hannah works out 3.1 × 19.6 on her calculator and writes down 6.076. Work out an estimate for 3.1 × 19.6, by rounding each number to 1 significant figure.
- 13.Simplify 5⁻² × 5⁴, giving your answer as a single power of 5.
- 14.Work out 35% of 180.
- 15.A length, L cm, has the error interval 24.5 ≤ L < 25.5. Write down the degree of accuracy to which the length was measured.
