- 1.Oliver uses his calculator to work out 25% of 80 and writes down 320. Without using a calculator, work out the correct value of 25% of 80.
- 2.A restaurant adds a service charge of 15% to a bill of £120. Work out the service charge.
- 3.A box stands on a table. The box exerts a force of 240 N on the table, and the base of the box has an area of 0.8 m². Work out the pressure the box exerts on the table, in N/m².
- 4.By listing systematically, work out how many two-digit multiples of 5 can be made using the digits 0, 3 and 5, if each digit can be used at most once and the number cannot start with 0.

- 7.A lift has a safe working load of 500 kg. Four people get in the lift and the lift's display records their total mass as 493 kg, correct to the nearest kg. Decide whether the four people are definitely within the safe working load.
- 8.Work out an estimate for 588 ÷ 31, by rounding each number to 1 significant figure.
- 9.A cube-shaped storage tank has a volume of 15,625 cubic centimetres. Work out the length of one edge of the tank.
- 10.A café buys 18 boxes of teabags at £3.45 each, and sells all the teabags for £108 in total. Work out the café's profit.
- 11.A jug holds 3 1/3 litres of juice. Each glass holds 2/3 of a litre. Work out how many glasses can be filled from the jug.
- 12.The distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,000 km. Write this distance in standard form, in kilometres.
- 13.The thickness of a sheet of card is 0.02384 cm. Write this thickness correct to 2 significant figures.
- 14.A semicircle has a diameter of 8 cm. Work out the exact area of the semicircle, in terms of π.
- 15.Write the fraction 9/25 as a decimal.
