- 1.In a school, 3/5 of the students study French. Of these students, 2/3 also study Spanish. What fraction of all the students study both French and Spanish?
- 2.A gym increases its membership price by 1/5. The original price is £60. Work out the new price.
- 3.A sponsored walk is 36 km long. Aisha has completed 8/12 of the walk. Work out how far she has walked.
- 4.A minibus can carry 16 passengers. A school is taking 179 pupils on a trip. By rounding 179 to the nearest 10, work out an estimate for the number of minibuses needed, given that the school cannot hire part of a minibus.
- 5.Work out an estimate for 6.8 × 41, by rounding each number to 1 significant figure.

- 7.A measuring jug shows a volume of 340 ml, correct to the nearest 20 ml. Work out the smallest possible volume in the jug.
- 8.A charity shop buys a coat for £24 and sells it for a profit that is 3/8 of the buying price. Work out the selling price.
- 9.Amelia eats 5/8 of a bar of chocolate and Oliver eats 3/4 of an identical bar. Write both amounts as eighths and write down the greater of the two fractions.

- 12.A restaurant offers a lunch deal of one starter from 5 options, one main from 6 options and one dessert from 3 options. Work out how many different lunch deals are possible.
- 13.A recipe states that a cake needs 200 g of flour, correct to the nearest 25 g. Work out the smallest possible mass of flour, in grams, that could actually be used.
- 14.Work out (4 × 10⁻³) × (2 × 10⁵). Give your answer in standard form.
- 15.Last year a company made a profit of £5,200,000. Write this amount in standard form.
